Reusable Syringes

A troubling report has revealed that reusable syringes are still being sold across Pakistan despite an official ban, posing serious risks to public health.

According to findings, counterfeit auto-disable syringes—designed for single use—are widely available in the market. These syringes are falsely labeled as “auto-disable” but can be reused multiple times.

Samples of such syringes were reportedly collected from cities including Peshawar, Multan, and Jacobabad.

Investigations further revealed that a significant portion of these reusable syringes are being manufactured and distributed from Gadoon Amazai Industrial Zone.

Health experts warn that the use of such syringes can lead to the spread of infectious diseases due to compromised infection control systems.

Reports also indicate that untrained practitioners often reuse the same syringe for multiple patients, charging as little as 50 to 100 rupees per injection.

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan has stated that strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal sale and distribution of these syringes.
